Désire! is a suspended wire sculpture, the result of a process of translating sound into form. At the origin of this piece is a word – the word desires – uttered by myself as an injunction, recorded and then transformed into a sound wave. This signal, digitally stretched and redrawn, becomes the starting point for a drawing, then a hand-meshed volume.
Suspended, the sculpture’s fine, taut form evokes a breath stretching through space.
With this work, I question the relationship between sound and matter, giving substance to a word in a fragile, vibrant form.
