Look! is part of the ONDE series, and can be heard as an injunction.
It’s a suspended sculpture in black lacquered wire, the result of a process of translating sound into form. At the origin of this piece is a word – the word Regarde – spoken by myself, recorded and then transformed into a sound wave. This signal, once stretched and reworked, becomes the starting point for a drawing, then a hand-meshed volume. When suspended, the sculpture’s fine, taut form evokes a line of sound, like a breath flowing from top to bottom or vice versa.
This series questions the relationship between language and matter, literally embodying a word in a fragile, vibrant form.
